Work Weekend - A Real Result

Last Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March the Gunfleet had a great response from members for the Club’s annual Work Weekend.  In glorious sunshine some 17 projects were tackled and by the end of the first day the Clubhouse had been creosoted, the changing room walls repainted on the outside, and the ceilings inside had also been re-plastered.  Also, over three tonnes of concrete had been laid in the compound after a failing section of hardstanding had been broken out, and the damaged felt on the Pagoda had been replaced.  The work continued on the Sunday with the Club Terrace being treated with wood stain, the compounds cleared of weeds and shingle (following the winter storms), and the railings and woodwork painted.  Under the Clubhouse a piece of structural engineering saw a chunk of rotten beam replaced, whilst inside the inside of the building had a complete spring-clean, with much of the furniture getting a facelift.  Free refreshment was available both days, including bacon sandwiches, hot dogs and baked beans on toast.

By Sunday afternoon, with the sun still shining, the final tidy-up was carried out and members returned home after a “job-well-done”.
