Celebrating The Start Of The 2015 Sailing Season

Gunfleet Sailing Club celebrated the start of its 2015 sailing season with the annual Fitting-Out Supper last Saturday evening 28 March.  Club Commodore Richard Walker welcomed 50 members to the event and looked forward to new beaches currently being constructed along the Holland/Clacton frontage.  2015 was to be a challenging year for the Gunfleet with the sailing programme being fitted around the scheme but the members had embraced the works in the clear recognition that the end result would bring huge benefits to the Club.  Walker thanked all those who had worked so hard during the closed season to make improvements to the interior of the Clubhouse, those that had carried out the cliff clearance, and the many members that had come down to the Work Weekend; he then presented John Tappenden with the Trophy for winning the Winter Series in his Blaze.

The evening concluded with the traditional fish and chip supper.

The next day, Sunday 29 March, members enthusiastically met at the Club to take part in the first race – for the March Hare Trophy, only to be greeted by force six, gusting eight, winds; the postponement flag stiffly flying from the yardarm.
