Reports 2017

Gunfleet Sailing Club welcomed the start of its 2017 sailing season last Saturday 25 March with the traditional Fitting-Out Supper in the Clubhouse; Commodore Richard Walker looking forward to a full and varied programme for the year, both on and off the water.

The next morning, Sunday 26 March, many of the Club’s members eagerly rigged-up their boats for the very first race of the year – the March Hare.  The blue skies and sunshine helped mask the strong winds – a force 5, gusting 6, north easterly that brought in some large rollers on a rising tide.

Over 40 members of the Gunfleet Sailing Club took part in the annual Work Weekend last Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 March.  The mild weather and light winds welcomed the helpers and it wasn't long before the Clubhouse looked resplendent in its fresh coat of creosote, whilst the cliff around the Club was perfectly manicured.  The mild steel posts at the end of the west compound, which had crumbled due to the total erosion through rust, were replaced with stainless steel ones and a team worked hard to install new stainless steel fence posts around the perimeter of the new compound.

Gunfleet Sailing Club was absolutely buzzing last Saturday 18 February when it held its annual Sailing Gear Sale.  The star attraction was definitely Derroll with his Nucleus stand offering absolutely unmissable bargains.  There were loads of great deals on life-jackets, buoyancy aids, wet-suits (full, shorties, tops and bottoms), dry-suits, wet-shoes, wet-boots, oversuits......it just went on.  Then there was the £5 rail with many of the above items priced to clear.
