Work Weekend - Time To Get Ready For The 2024 Sailing Season

Gunfleet members sprung into life last Saturday and Sunday - 9 &10 March, eager to get the Club all ready for the start of the 2024 sailing season...which is just weeks away.  Saturday was bright and breezy, just right for creosoting the outside of the Clubhouse, whilst improvements were being made in the compound.  The water drainage system, from the Clubhouse roof, was given a complete upgrade, and the uneven boat space was brought on the level.  There was also an opportunity to rebuild one of the Topper racks, making it a far sturdier stacking system to handle the growing number of Toppers in the Club; currently standing at ten.  Meanwhile the outside of the changing rooms were getting a lick of paint, whilst the insides were being thoroughly cleaned, and the grounds maintenance team were tidying-up the greenery and sweeping sand out of the compound.  Free refreshments, in the shape of hot and cold drinks, and a nourishing hot lunch, were busy being served, whilst the place just buzzed with enthusiasm.

Many jobs completed, it was onto Sunday, where the rain tried, without success, to put the dampers on things.  Some braved the weather to work outside, including fixing new boat tie-downs, whilst others were busy decorating the changing rooms; and still the refreshment flowed throughout the day.  The storage hut and sail locker were both tidied-up, and lots of rubbish disposed of, and as the door was shut on Sunday, the Club had (a) Spring in its step, ready for the onslaught of sailors at the end of the month!
