Lifeboat Visit A Great Success

On Sunday 18 January members of the Gunfleet Sailing Club were invited by the Walton and Frinton Yacht Club to have a ramble from W&FYC to the Walton and Frinton Lifeboat at the end of Walton Pier.  We joined our good friends from the Yacht Club at 10:15 and strolled through Walton Town and onto the Pier.  With a gloriously calm day and very light winds we were greeted by the Walton and Frinton Lifeboat, the two Harwich Lifeboats, and the two Clacton Lifeboats – five in all!  We clambered on board and were shown all the controls and all the latest hi-tech equipment that makes the Royal National Lifeboat Institution the amazing lifesaving organisation that leads the world.  Coming away with a real understanding of the service we all walked back to the Station’s operations room and saw how it all worked back on shore.  Then it was back to the Yacht Club for a wonderful carvery meal in the restaurant and a chance to catch-up with several old friends.  The Gunfleet had a massive table for us all to share and we were soon tucking into the roast beef or pork, or nut-roast, followed by a delightful choice of sweets.  So relaxed we all became that by the time we picked up our coats to leave it was just starting to get dusk.

Gunfleet would like to thank the Walton and Frinton Yacht Club, the Walton and Frinton Lifeboat Station, the Harwich Lifeboat Station, and the Clacton on Sea Lifeboat Station for their invitation; it was a wonderful day and one we shall not forget.
