Club AGM Looks Back At Great Year
Gunfleet Sailing Club held its Annual General Meeting last Sunday 5 December in the Clubhouse when Commodore Richard Walker looked back at another very successful year. There had been a record number of members in 2010, so much so that the Committee closed the doors to new members and now holds a waiting list. The sailing season had seen a lot of activity on the water with all races taking place and all but one of the cruises. Entries to the races had been high, peeking with the Gunfleet Regatta when 39 boats took part, providing some exciting and lively sailing, as well as raising £552 for Clacton Lifeboat. The Social side of the Club had also been very active with 120 members attending the Firework Night and 97 members at the Laying-Up Dinner and Dance. The younger members of Gunfleet had been particularly active with 74 Cadets and Otters; a record number. They had enjoyed After School Sailing on Wednesday evenings, Sailing On Saturday plus a Cadet Day full of games as part of the Club’s Regatta Weekend. The highlight had been, however, the Cadet Week when 42 young people had a week of fun both on and off the water.
The Club Treasurer Peter Downer went through the accounts and explained the increase in both the income and expenditure, the sign of a healthy Club, and answered members’ questions. He was pleased to report that the Club was on a sound financial footing with a small surplus being achieved in 2010.
Finally the Committee for 2011 was appointed as follows:
President: Tony Heath
Commodore: Richard Walker
Vice Commodore: Dave Fowell
Rear Commodore: June Richardson

Sailing Secretary: Simon Clarke
Social Secretary: Jon Meggison
