Reports 2011

Gunfleet Sailing Club's Work Weekend, held on 12 and 13 March proved a great success with 70 jobs being completed.  With a great turnout of members on both days the painting, creosoting, cleaning, repairing, servicing, weeding and greasing went ahead at a real pace.

Egg, Bacon and Sausage in a roll, plus Carol's (our very own Mrs Kipling) homemade cakes saw everyone refreshed, and of course there were lashings of tea and coffee...oh yes and hot chocolate for the Commodore!

The Big Society came to Holland on Sea last Saturday 12 February when Gunfleet Sailing Club teamed up with Tendring District Council to cut back the tamarisk on the cliff ready for the summer season.  Over 40 members took part in the operation and, in glorious weather, cut the tamarisk back on the seafront cliffs, as well as litter picking and generally tidying up the area.  The Council’s Horticultural Services supplied a grounds maintenance office and a shredder and it wasn’t long before the area was looking all “ship shape”.

On Saturday evening, 22 January the Clubhouse came to life when over 40 members came down to watch a picture show of the fun had on and off the water at the Gunfleet in 2010.; and to accompany this were an assortment of tasty snacks.  Apart from the opportunity to catch-up with old friends the evening cheered members up as they were reminded that it won’t always be cold and damp.  A great time was had by all and the thanks go to Jon, our Social Secretary, and his wife Linda for arranging such a lovely evening.
