Fantastic Christmas Party, and Cadet AGM The Next Day

The Club celebrated the festive season in style last Saturday 13 December when members packed the gaily decorated Clubhouse for the Christmas Party.  The buffet was a fantastic mix of food, all provided by those attending, and left nobody wanting.  A light-hearted Xmas Quiz kept everyone amused before Father Christmas arrived with a sack full of presents for all the good boys and girls.  After this came a fun game of Catchphrase with the boys versus the girls and it was a clean victory for the boys.  Laughter and merriment rang-out throughout the evening and as the party-goers left that evening they could just make out the tracks lefts by Santa’s sleigh.

Then, on Sunday 14 December the Club’s younger members got together when the Gunfleet Sailing Club held its Cadet Annual General Meeting.  The meeting started with a presentation to retiring Cadet Officer Chris Williams.  Cadet Commodore Robert Gutteridge thanked Chris for all his hard work during his two years in office and presented him with an engraved glass tankard as a token of the Cadets’ appreciation.

There then followed a review of the year’s sailing and social activities which focused particularly on the Sailing On Saturday (SOS), Cadet Day and the Cadet Week, but also highlighted the success of the younger members of the Club in winning a number of “mainstream” trophies, both at Gunfleet and as visitors to other clubs.

The following Cadet Officers were then elected for the 2015 season:

Commodore:  Daisy Swinbourne
Vice-Commodore:  Conor Williams
Rear-Commodore:  Beth Ford
Sailing Secretary:  Harry Swinbourne
Social Secretary:  Beth Elliott
Compound Officer:  Tom Philpot

Main Committee Vice-Commodore Dave Fowell gave a brief presentation on the coast protection works heading the Club’s way and reassured the Cadets and Otters that there would still be plenty of water based activities in 2015 with the promise of some superb beaches for sailing from, once the works had been completed.

The last item on the Agenda was an opportunity for the Cadets and Otters to discuss possible ideas for consideration in formulating the 2015 Fixture List and the suggestions proved both stimulating and useful.
