New Cadet Committee Appointed

Matt Downing has been named as the new Cadet Commodore of Gunfleet Sailing Club.
He was elected at the Cadets and Otters’ annual general meeting, of which there are more than 70 young members, on Sunday 15 January.
The first piece of business was the election of officers for the Cadet Committee, starting with Downing’s appointment.
Robert Gutteridge is the new Vice Commodore and Aaron Baker the Rear Commodore, while the new Sailing Secretary is Emily Cossens, the Social Secretary Anna Challis and the Compound Officer Tom Fadden.
Downing then opened the floor for suggestions for both sailing and social activities, in order that the Cadet Committee could use them in formulating the programme for 2012.
There then followed discussions on the best methods of communicating with each other, to ensure everyone was aware of all the latest sailing news.
It was agreed that, in additional to the traditional club newsletter and emails, the Gunfleet Facebook page will be expanded and Twitter and texting will also be used.
A fully illustrated talk was then given on the different class of dinghies suitable for young people, starting with those members just entering sailing and leading-up to the exciting two-person skiffs, such as the 29er.
Cadet officer Barry Peters finished the meeting with a talk on health and safety.
This year’s full season of activities will include the very popular After School Sailing, Sailing On Saturdays, Cadet Day and the highlight of the year, Cadet Week.
